People Lindsay Lohan

After Lindsay Lohan’s brief appearance with Chelsea Handler, at the beginning of the 2010 VMAs, it looked like maybe she was finally succeeding in getting her act together, or at least taking baby steps in the right direction. I have been waiting for years for Lindsay to make a comeback; everyone loves an underdog, but she’s making it hard for me to continue to root for her. Her probation has been revoked and Lindsay has been ordered to return to court this Friday. Lindsay has failed two drug tests, one for the presence of cocaine, and the other for amphetamines. You would think that after she hated being in jail the first time, she would want to avoid the possibility of being sent back. I have lost track of how many time she has been in rehab, but clearly, this last visit was no more effective than any of her previous attempts. Lohan’s ankle bracelet went off after the VMAs, reportedly while she was at an after-party, and that resulted in the warrant for her arrest and the doubling of her bail. Lohan’s lawyer claimed she tested negative during an alcohol test. She could, however, be sentenced up to 30 days in jail for each failed drug test. It should be noted, however, that she did only serve 14 days of her original 90-day sentence, due to overcrowding issues.

Lindsay issued a statement via Twitter late Friday night saying, “Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result. Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future. This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences. I am so thankful for the support of my fans, loved ones and immediate family, who understand that I am trying hard, but also that I am a work in progress, just as anyone else. I am keeping my faith, and I am hopeful….Thank you all!!!”

This sounds much more humble than her statement in a recent Vanity Fair interview, ”If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a [SCRAM] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room, because I would have had to come down from all the things that people say I’m taking and my father says I’m taking — so that says something, because I was fine.”

In other Lohan legal news, her $100 million lawsuit against E*Trade has been settled. The lawsuit was over a commercial that aired during the Superbowl featuring a baby named Lindsay who was a “milkaholic.” TMZ reported that “the terms of the settlement are confidential, but we’re told Lindsay’s team is ‘very happy’ with the results.” It does look like she could use the money, to help out with her mounting legal bills.
